Salud, The Wine Bar That Could

Finding Salud in Camas, WA about a year ago has given me a place to enjoy wine and nibbles, and host friends and gatherings. An unlike location on 3rd in Camas, the large space has been converted to an unlikely wine bar. Wine bars I have enjoyed in the past have been more intimate settings with dimer lights and many times a piano in the corner offering soft music not to interrupt conversation. Comfortable couches and overstuffed chair litter this warehouse like setting with no apparent design or theme other than eclectic. The wine bar that could use a make over is Salud.

Over this past year of visiting at least once a week and getting to know the owners has given insight to the wine bar that could survive despite change. Owners have left and new owners have entered creating different energy. The wine bar that could survive with only one of the original owners, a couple determine to create success despite any obstacle. The wine bar that could use professional servers relies on owners, family, and friends creating more of a family atmosphere.

Salud is a wine bar of exceptional offerings and growing. Not only can you go in for a glass of wine and snacks or a Fabulous flight of wines, you can have your own wine locker preserving your wine at proper temperature and humidity to protect your most prized bottles. No corking fee is required to come in and enjoy a bottle of wine out of your locker and they provide the glasses. Memberships are also available that offer discounts on your purchases and bottles of wine monthly that are not on the menu. The wine bar that could offer more upscale wines keeps their selections in the moderately price bottles so all can enjoy Salud, something for everyone.

The wine bar that could use a wider variety of food offers delicious appetizers that never disappoint. The wine bar that could use more is providing more by offering patio seating for the warmer months. Also new offering to come is a Whiskey Bar slated for a February opening. My biggest disappointment in Salud is that it is trying to be everything to everyone rather than creating an experience. Salud bills themselves as an event center and the space supports it although I have learned to check their event calendar prior to going to be sure I am not going on Salsa dancing night, yoga night, craft night or whatever else they are hosting to bring in any and every one. Both Friday and Saturday nights host different musical groups as well as soloist with a variety of talents. The wine bar that could offer relaxing wine bar piano music offers upbeat entertainment that creates a need to wait till they have a break to chat. The wine bar that could survive did.
